He was predeceased by: his father Elder J. David Lewis; and his grandparents, Flem, Irene Lewis, Willy and Elizabeth Lewis.

He is survived by: his mother Carolyn Lewis; his children, Malcolm Stanton, Marquita Stanton and Latia Powell; his siblings, David Lewis (Angela), Spencer Lewis (Terri), James Lewis and Victoria Lewis; his stepmother Nora Lewis; his stepsisters, Bernictric Black (Melvin), Tawana Logan and Tina Logan; his aunt Bessie Lewis; his uncle Tommy Lewis; and his cousin Drew Alderman. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
