Flora Doris Baird Payne Obituary
We are sad to announce that on October 27, 2023, at the age of 81, Flora Doris Baird Payne of Blacksburg, Virginia passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her mother Emma Moyer Baird; and her brother Guidon T Baird, II. She is survived by: her father Guidon T. Baird "Duke"; her children, Alice Castellano (Matthew) of Germantown, MD, George Phelps of Pulaski, VA, Cara Blemings (Kenneth) of Morgantown, WV and Brian Phelps (Gina) of Harrisonburg, VA.; her grandchildren, Stephanie McKim (Stephen), Joseph Castellano, Benjamin Blemings, Elizabeth Blemings, Logan Phelps, Megan Phelps, Jocelyne Phelps and Jovie Phelps; her siblings-in-law, Li Baird and John Bell; her nephews, William H. Payne (Martha) and Dr. Albert Payne (Sandra); her niece Patricia Lightner (Bruce); and her great-niece Sally Archibald (Mark).
Sadly, after Bill's passing in January 2019, she would have to endure the pandemic's less spoken symptoms of the disease; isolation and inactivity due to suspension of public gatherings.
Although she had many charities she loved and supported, per her request, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Flora Payne's name to St. Paul United Methodist Church at 220 W Main Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
