He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Connell; his children, Valerie Dowdy (James Dowdy), Michael Connell and Michelle Mullins (Ronald Mullins); his grandchildren, Ashley Dowdy (Amy Adams), Shaun Dowdy (Jessica Dowdy), Cassandra Dowdy, T. J. Lewis and Ally Connell; and his sisters, Wilma Sears and Betty Mullins. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
