With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mary Carter Harris of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, who passed away on March 7, 2025 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John Rutherford and Leona Isom Rutherford; her siblings, William "Teeny" Rutherford, Johnny Rutherford, JD Rutherford and Dorothy Scalf; and her former husband Ward Carter.
She is survived by: her sisters, Betty Santos and Shirley Clark.
Viewing was held on Wednesday, March 12th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Holding Funeral Home (17 E 3rd St N, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219). A committal service was held on Thursday, March 13th 2025 at 12:50 PM at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens (5650 Powell Valley Rd, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219). A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her honor to The American Heart Association.
