He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilmer Rhoten and Nan Rhoten; his grandson Austin Cheek; and his siblings, Eddie June Rhoten, Dorothy Murphy, Alice "Bertie" Pennington and Ruby Malone.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Rhoten; his children, Michael (Rebecca Rhoten), Karen (Brandon Cheek), Sue (Brandon Burns), Jonathan (Tiffany Rhoten) and Jamie (Donna Sturgill); his foster sons, Brandon and Bryson Wilson; his grandchildren, Neullan, Megan Neff, Matthew David Rhoten, Connor Burns and Sierra Rhoten; his great grandchildren, Maci, Emma, Liam, Cora and Owen; and his brothers, Sam Rhoten and Fred (Roberta Rhoten).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home (298 Harrell St, Pennington Gap, VA 24277).
