He was predeceased by: his parents, Rondale Isaiah and Ada Edna Barnhill (Tilghman); and his siblings, Ida (Blaylock), Margaret, Norma Mae, Ellen (Start) and Ronald.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon; and his children, James Roy, Jr. (Susan) of Fredericksburg, VA, Robert Daniel (MaryAnn) of Berryville, VA and Rebecca Marie (Tom Baker) of Andover, MN. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
