He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Dow and Nadene Fitzwater Shoemaker; his wife Margaret Morris; his children, Carl Danny Shoemaker and Sonja Renee Shoemaker; and his stepchildren, Robin Pedraza and Steve Conley.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Tim Conley of Broadway and Gloria Conley of Harrisonburg; his stepgrandson Jamie Fink of Harrisonburg; and his siblings, Kay Lam of Richmond, Rebecca "Becky" Minnich of Broadway and Rickie Shoemaker of Bergton.
