He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Madison McKinney and Alice Overstreet McKinney; his brothers, Ronnie McKinney and Donnie McKinney, Sr.; and his siblings-in-law, Gene Carr, Charles Bowyer and Barbara McKinney.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Andrews McKinney; his children, Tina Carter (Ronnie), Christy McKinney, Melinda Bowyer (Carl) and William Edward "Eddie" McKinney, Jr.; his siblings, Doris Wood (Willard), Linda Carr, Cheryl Bush (Bob), Wanda Goin (George), Faye Bowyer, Willie McKinney (Debbie), Jimmy McKinney, Roy McKinney (Maria) and David McKinney (Mary); and his sister-in-law Lisa McKinney. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
