She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Christopher Updike and Mary Fisher Updike of Virginia; her husband Lee Jackson Carter; and her siblings, George C. Updike and Louise U. Webber.
She is survived by: her children, James L. Carter (Janet) of Bedford, Virginia E. Carter of Charlottesville and Lois C. Cooper (Brian) of Midlothian; her brother Paul E. Updike of Gloucester; and her grandchildren, Ben Cooper (Liz Garman) of Chattanooga, Grant Collins of Oxon Hill and Grace Cooper of Richmond. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
