He was predeceased by: his parents, James Madison Cottrell and Hazel Howell Cottrell; his sister Virginia Cottrell Crawford; his brother-in-law Tommy Crawford; and his brother James Cottrell.
He is survived by: his wife Helen McKinney Cottrell; his sons, Danny Wayne Cottrell (Robin) and Randy William Cottrell; his grandson Toby Cottrell; his siblings-in-law, Marguerite B. Cottrell and Robert McKinney; his friends, James Wheeler (Margie), Ray Burnette (Hazel) and David Allen; and his pets, Tippy and Booboo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins; many numerous other friends.
