He was predeceased by: his parent Ben F. Chappelle; his wife Frances K. Chappelle; his son Stephen H. Chappelle; his siblings, David, Thomas, John, James, Robert Chappelle, Alice Beatty, Barbara Heller, Camille Rice and Easter Zieber; and his close friend Delia B. Olson.
He is survived by: his parent Dorothy K. Chappelle; his children, John V. Chappelle (Wendy) and Susan C. Brooks (Steven); his granddaughters, Carly B. Kazanoglu (Anil) and Kaitlyn B. Tomkinson; his great grandchild Vera Brooke Kazanoglu; his brother W. J. Chappelle; and his close friend Laurie Williams of Edgar Mitchell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
