He is survived by: his parent Gladys Lucille Newbern Mays; his spouse Janet Updike Mays; his children, Beverly Matthews (Donald) of Greenville, NC and Jamie Mays of Richmond; his siblings, Perk Mays of Blairs, Jackie Mays of Forest, Ellen Brumfield of Chatham, Fannie McDaniel of Apex, NC and Sarah Farson of Vernon Hill; his grandson Adam Haraway; and his godchildren, Alden Short, Jarrett Short and Alainey Drane.
