She was predeceased by: her parents, Luther Hodges and Lelia Witt Hodges. She is survived by: her husband William "Sonny" Melvin Carter, Sr.; her son William "Bill" Melvin Carter, Jr.; her grandsons, Boyce Ashwell and Christopher Carter; her great grandchild Sayword Carter; and her siblings, Nancy Maxfield, Dorothy Hill and Gary Hodges. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
