He was predeceased by : his parents, John Thomas Compton and Katie Sue Compton (Bell); his stepdaughter Vivian Wilson of Martinsville, VA; and his siblings, Raymond Compton of Winston Salem, VA, Ray Compton of Indiana, J. D, Dathred Compton, Ocie Compton, Harvey Compton, Aubrey Compton, Anita Smith of Reidsville, NC and Gail Chipman of Orlando, FL..

He is survived by : his wife Lenna B. Compton; and his brother Othel Compton of Ridgeway. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, July 12th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Bassett Funeral Service (3665 Fairystone Park Hwy, Bassett, VA 24055). A funeral service was held on Friday, July 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, July 12th 2024 at the Prophecy Cemetery (3441 Elamsville Rd, Stuart, VA 24171).
