He was predeceased by: his parents, Donna Ethel Steele Carter and Dean A. Carter; and his son Therin Carter. He is survived by: his close friend Anna Lawson Grayson of Austinville; his stepson James William Grayson of Austinville; his children, Jennifer Ann Carter-Calloway (Daniel) of Shawsville, Wendy Renee Carter of Christiansburg and David Carter (Brenda) of Ft. Worth, TX; his brother Randall Carter (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Megan of Shawsville, Carrie of Shawsville, Laralye Leyer (Kolten) of Radford, Nathan Linkous of Roanoke, Caleb Carter of Roanoke and Autumn Linkous (Lazarus) of Christiansburg; his great grandchild Dailtin Linkous of Christiansburg; and his niece Aiesha Carter.
