He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harvey and Maude Rogers Armbrister; his former wife Donna Taylor Armbrister; and his daughter-in-law Kathy C. Armbrister. He is survived by: his wife Virginia S. Cox Armbrister; and his children, James R. Armbrister, Eddie L. Armbrister (Donna), Marsha A. Armbrister, Susan A. Wrenn (David), Cynthia Shelby Kemp and Richard Lewis Cox. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, and 13 Great Grandchildren, numerous Nieces and Nephews.
