He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Franklin and Zelda Mae Nester Lawson. He is survived by: his wife Aleene Lawson; his children, Randall Lawson, Doug Lawson, Kathy Strickland, Phyllis Quesenberry and Sandra Bolen; and his brother Belford Lawson. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
