He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hartwell and Lucie Lee Crantz; his wife Grace Anne Kearney Smith; his siblings, Pearle Williamson, W. Ellison Smith and Glenn C. Smith; his son Charles W. Smith; and his nephew Michael S. Grimesey.
He is survived by: his daughters, Carol Lauffenburger (Jack), Ann Marie Jackson (Jamie), Peggy Bokulic (Jay) and Laura Penny (Billy); and his nieces and nephews, Bob Grimesey (Carol), John Grimesey (Debbie), Noreen Hill and Beth Grimesey. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
