He was predeceased by: his father James Franklin; and his siblings, Mary Agnes Matthews Goins, Faye Matthews Beasley, William "Leon" Matthews and Jimmy Lee Matthews.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys Lucille Bowman Matthews; his children, Cindy Matthews Maines (Victor), Penny Matthews Resh (Chip), Keith Matthews and Donnie Matthews; his grandchildren, Timmy Maines (Catherine), Weston Maines (Chelsea), Logan Maines (Lisa), Tyler Hall, Sydnee Hall Holt (Austin) and Keaton Matthews-Bennett; his great grandchildren, Arlo, August, Eleanor and Audrey; his sisters, Lou Matthews Puckett and Bonnie Matthews Harris; and his sister-in-law Margaret Matthews. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
