She was predeceased by: her husband Edward Daniel Hamlett, Sr.; her parents, Wilbur Anthony and Lula Jenkins Anthony; and her son Hoke Andrew "Andy" Rice. She is survived by: her children, Brenda R. Bates (Thomas), Charles E. Rice of Farmville, Diane H. Brinkley of Pamplin, E. "Danny" Hamlett (Linda) and Pam H. McCauley (Mike); and her sisters, Margaret Ratcliff, Ruth M. Thomas and Lois Parr. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
