He was predeceased by: his parents, D. P. Sallinger and Doris Taylor Sallinger; his wife Nellie Mae Coffey Sallinger; and his sisters, Joyce Terry and Marilyn Spivey.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Cynthia McKinney; his daughter Deborah Allen (Sidney); and his granddaughters, Joy Strickfaden (Kirk) and Tammy Aveille (Michael).
