He was predeceased by: his parents, Marshal James and Gertie Lou Bryant Childress; and his granddaughters, Cindy and Mindy Childress. He is survived by: his children, H. J. Childress, Jr. (Libby), Melissa Staton of Gladstone and Deborah Childress of Gladstone; his grandsons, Robert Woodfin, Jr. (Kate Buchanan) of Madison Heights, Landon and Nathan Childress of Gladstone; his great grandchildren, Hunter Woodfin and Luke Buchanan; and his cousins, Barbara, William Bryant of Madison Heights and Seth Wright of Gladstone.
