He was predeceased by: his parents, Alex Simmons and Henrietta Janicke Massie. He is survived by: his son David Simmons, Jr. (Nora Booker) of Rustburg; his grandchildren, David Simmons, III and Brittney Larson (Dean); and his great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Anjel, Betsy Ayers (Lloyd) and Leah Lovell (Kenny).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monelison Rescue Squad.
