He was predeceased by: his parent Edward G. Hughes; and his wife Onida Doss Hughes. He is survived by: his parent Avana Burdette Hughes; his stepchildren, Andy Thruston (Denise) of Huddleston and Ruth Ferrell (Billy) of Hurt; and also, Robert, Eloise, Dot and Regina. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
