Margie was born Margaret Elizabeth Settle on October 31, 1942 in Warrenton, VA, the daughter of Aubrey William Settle and Dollie Mae Virginia Hitt. She lovingly was called "Marjorie" in early years but was always known as "Margie".

They had two children. Steven Walter Shifflett born December 11, 1959, and Larry Keith Shifflett born October 19, 1962. Margie and Emory went on to have four grandchildren: Candace Anne Saramosing (Darryl Saramosing), William Luckey Shifflett, Stephanie Elizabeth Shifflett (Michael Ellis), Steven Walter Shifflett (Carly Stoliker). Additionally, five great grandchildren: Haley Elizabeth Lee, Savannah Rae Saramosing, Kylie Michelle Saramosing (William Schneider), Zachary Michael Saramosing, and Lillian Belle Saramosing. Even extra special, Margie was able to be witness to three great-great children: Micah Edward Lee, Rilyn Sadie-Anne Lee, and Beckham Taylor Schneider. Margie was also an aunt and great aunt to many, many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as their "favorite'.

Margie worked as a Bakery Manager at Giant Foods in Alexandria for 20+ years and retired in 2010. She was named Staffer of the month. She was also known to give out a donut or a cookie occasionally to children that came by to see her at the bakery.
Margie especially loved shopping and traveling. She had an eye for bargains and all things glam. In earlier years, she and Emory would road trip to various states and loved traveling to Dollywood with her sister Ruby and her husband Ernest. In later years, after her husband's passing, she and Allan ventured to Canada, Spain, and various destinations spots like Hawaii, and other areas around the United States. Margie had a deep love for her entire family. She was classy, gentle, soft spoken, strong-willed, independent, and had a very southern belle type laugh that was un-mistakeable. She was incredibly sentimental, keeping every birthday, Christmas, sympathy card ever given to her and always treasuring her mementos. She was also sassy and fabulous even in her 80s. She was an outstanding role model of a matriarch. She was and will continue to be a loving wife, companion, sister, mother, grandmother in spirit. God only takes the best.
A Celebration of Life is being planned in January 2025.
