He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Smith Newkirk and Tom Newkirk; his siblings, Annie Pearl Crawford (Charles), Annie Doris Parrish, Hattie Lillian Montgomery, Eddie Paul Newkirk, Arthur Lee Newkirk, Thomas Willie Newkirk, Willie Floyd Newkirk and Charlie Lee Newkirk; his parent-in-law Joseph; and his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cooper (Vaughn) and Joann Munn (Deboris).
He is survived by: his uncle Sam; his wife Ann Newkirk; his daughter Yolanda Ross (Jerome); and his grandson Jerome Ross.
