Jerry was a pillar of the Springfield community for nearly 75 years. He was a founding member of the Springfield-Franconia Lions club, received multiple honors from the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce for his contributions, and was honored as the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Association's 1995 Citizen of the Year. In addition to his community service, Jerry was well-known for his sense of humor and affinity for playing backgammon and checkers, often in the back of Jerry's Barber Shop.

He is survived by his son, Gerald C. Corbin (Susan) of Leesburg; daughters Carol Corbin (Ray Nigh) of Lucketts; and Joyce Corbin of Alexandria; grandchildren, Jessica Corbin (Phillip Thompson), Levi Corbin (Dawn), Ian Corbin, Heather Malcewicz (Robert), and Andrew Corbin; great grandson Christopher Thompson; caregiver Gifty Adzaworlu; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Harold Pasco Corbin, Greta Horton, Edgar Corbin Jr., Roscoe Corbin, Garland Corbin, Lita Hager, and Bonnie Derrer.

Family will receive friends for a visitation Saturday, September 18, from 4-8 pm, at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr, Alexandria, VA. “This breaks my heart, as Donna Nalls said he was good to all us kids. Many nights me Patricia Sullivan, Mandy Mele McCauley should not have been out walking around, He would make sure we had food in our stomachs and safe place to hang out. Oh and the Pizza Burgers were awesome. Really nice man, this really saddens me 😞 Rest in power Jerry. My condolences to his family, he really did so much for our community,”

Donna Nalls wrote a sympathy message

“Fifty years later, I still remember Jerry so fondly. In addition to the barbershop mentioned in the obituary, Jerry owned the pizza shop in the same shopping center (Springfield Plaza) - right across from the bowling alley we all hung out in. Thank you, Jerry; you were a true gentleman and so good to all the kids that came into the pizza shop. I’m sure there are many stories to share about your kindness and good nature. Our world was a better place because of you!!”
