He was predeceased by: his father Onas Bates (Ed); and his siblings, Jackie Bates, Onas Jr. (Sam) and Tony Bates. He is survived by: his mother Bessie Bates; his daughter Elisha Dixon; his granddaughter Hannah Dixon Gordon; and his sister Betty Brown (Bates). He is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
