He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Albert Kahler and Bernice Faye Leidigh Kahler; his grandfather Scott Leidigh (Addie Boch Leidigh); his uncle Roy Leidigh; and his brother Philip Gene Kahler.
He is survived by: his daughter Lynn Rogerson Shirey (Rogerson Shirey); his son-in-law Dr. Steven Bottome Shirey; his granddaughter Olivia Kingsley Rogerson; his niece Cynthia Kahler Carman; his nephew Michael Kahler; and his great-niece Rene Zerfas.
