He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Shanks and Lotchie Shanks. He is survived by: his brother Clenton of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by two sons, H. L. (Sonny) Shanks of Tennessee and Gary Shanks of Afton, VA; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
