He was predeceased by: his parents, James Rutherford and Lou Etta Long Rutherford; and his brothers, E. J., David and Everett Rutherford.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Darlene Rutherford; his children, Robby Rutherford (Amanda) and Faith Smith (Richard); his siblings, Gerald, Harold Rutherford, Rosa South (Fred), Stella Woods, Bertha Turner, Sarah Cross (Kenny) and Linda Sherffey (Gary); and his grandchildren, Isaac and Charlotte Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel, Abingdon, Viriginia. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Dewey Memorial Cemetery (9904 Badger Ln, Pound, VA 24279).
