He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney Franklin and Carrie Burton Merkley; his brother Don; his wife Beverly Merkley; and his children-in-law, Tim Reynolds and Robyn Merkley.
He is survived by: his children, Wayne Merkley (Robyn), Lisa Evans (Steve) and Terrel. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
