He was predeceased by: his parents, William Wayman Hemphill (Bill) and Inez Edwards Hemphill (Tabor); his sister Jeannette Hemphill (Olson); and his brother-in-law Lee Olson. He is survived by: his wife Mary of Wright's Super Market; and his children, Edwin William Hemphill (Kathleen) and Mary Ann Hemphill Erdmann (Mark). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
In 1999, Stan and Mary were called as missionaries to serve as the Donations & Volunteer Labor Coordinators for the reconstruction of the Nauvoo Temple in Illinois.
