He is survived by: his wife Irma Helga Zimmermann; his children, Dean Ertel (Lisa), Diane Smyly (Dietmar) and Eileen Sadler (Dany); his grandchildren, Heidi Ertel, Daniel Ertel, Annelie Ertel, David Ertel, Zachary Smyly, Zandon Smyly (Tori), Savannah Dawson (Brock) and Paisley Sadler; his sisters, Waltraut Arndt (Dieter) and Gisela Brown (Wayne); and his sister-in-law Elsbeth Ertel.
