He was predeceased by: his parents, Erik Petersen and Astrid Petersen; his brother Paul Petersen; his granddaughter Ada Hannah Spurgeon; and his daughter-in-law Britni Wright Petersen.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Wynder; his children, Jennifer Fullmer (Rick), Justin Petersen (Karen), Ryan Petersen, Natalie Rosenbalm (Sam), Amy Spurgeon (Nathan), Christopher Petersen (Josie) and Corey Petersen (Katherine); and his siblings, Vagn Petersen and Gerda Jacobsen. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
