He was predeceased by: his brother James Edward Barnhurst; and his nephew Adam Thayne. He is survived by: his parents, Michael Edward Barnhurst and Carolann Jensen Barnhurst; his siblings, Susan Cloe Carter, Paul Wesley, Sharolyn Kaye Barnhurst, Marie Ann Barnhurst, Mark Tom, Sandi Barnhurst, Elaine Edith and Jeffrey Mark Roettele; and his nieces and nephews, Adrian Thayne, Amber Thayne, Jeffrey Ryan, Samuel Barnhurst, Hannah Barnhurst, Ryan Barnhurst, Sarah Barnhurst, Travis Roettele and Keith Roettele.
