He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Harmon Sowards and June Bee; and his brothers, Steve and Doug Sowards. He is survived by: his wife Shari-Lee Bunot; his daughters, Alison Sowards LeClaire and Michelle Sowards; his son-in-law Greg LeClaire; his grandsons, Zachary and Thomas LeClaire; his brother Scott Sowards; his sister-in-law Heidi Sowards; and his pets, Red, Sam, Addie, Lucy and Stella.

His work left an enduring legacy, particularly through his contributions to many buildings constructed throughout the Mountain West.
