He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernst August Schmidt and Helene Amanda Teichfischer; and his niece Nadja Buchholz. He is survived by: his wife Marianne Schmidt; his children, Rottgar Schmidt (Melody), Miriam Ricaldi (Dwight), May-Cathleen Smith (Hershell) and Majorie-Ann Syndergaard (Aaron); his grandchildren, Ann-Theresa, Sophie, Finn-Hendrik (Zita), Danilo (Simin), Melv-Niklas, Ryker (Xavier), Fenna-Louise, Luis-Rene (Lara), McKayla, Katelin, Ryanna, Colin, Blake, Garret, Corbyn and Brooke; and his great grandchildren, Milan, Mats, Dian and Yuma.
