He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Banner and Mary Elizabeth Ellington; his children, Dallas, Herbert Jr. and Donna Jean; and his brothers, Kenneth and LeDell Ellington.

He is survived by: his children, Jimmy, Michael, Sharon, Pamela (Nathan), Charlotte, Cheryl, Gina, Romona (Charles) and Rochelle. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great- grandchildren.
