He was predeceased by: his parents, Arie Gend and Emilia Van Gend; his daughters, Margaret Van Gend (Margie) and Patricia Geertsen (Pat); and his granddaughter Stefani Richards.
He is survived by: his close friend Sue; his children, Dave Van Gend (Cindy) and Shirley Daniels (Ray) of West Jordan; his grandchildren, David Van Gend (Elle), Brandon Cluff (Talisia), Rochelle Somers (Austin), Rebecca Anderson (Josh), Jennifer Bullock (Matt), Natalie Aragon (Jeremy), Chelsea Ozuna (Cory), Lindsay Lauritzen (James) and Jerod Richards; his son-in-law Jay Geertsen (Roslyn); and his sisters, Wilma Smit, Ann Sharp, Virginia Strong and Emmy Kattenhorn (Bob). He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren.
