He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Leo and Laura Vest Helquist. He is survived by: his wife Janice Platt of Richfield; and his children, Darcie Slade (Russell), Lisa Huntsman (Lee), Windy Mcllrath (Jim), Trina Helquist, Dustin Helquist (Jamie) and Ryan Helquist (Melanie). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren.
