James Anthony Georgelis Obituary

James Anthony Georgelis, 85 died peacefully on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born 30 October 1936 to the late Anthony Demetrios and Irene Moustakas Georgelis. He was the loving and devoted husband of Nancy Georgelis with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Jay Georgelis. Much loved grandfather of Sirius George.

In addition to his wife and his daughter he is survived by his sister Kay Liadis (George) of Boynton Beach, Florida; his brother Michael Georgelis (Diane) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; his sister Anna Soukas (Anastasios) of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his niece, Erin G. Liadis.

Jim graduated as the salutatorian of his high school class from Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1954. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his Masters degree in Business Administration from Purdue University. He lived in Ohio and Pennsylvania until 1973 when he moved to Salt Lake City.

Before his retirement, he was employed by the General Electric Company, the Sperry Univac Corporation, and later became the owner of Crystal West, an ice cream products distributor in Salt Lake City.

Jim was a college and professional football enthusiast and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. During football season, he and his brother were on the phone every Saturday and Sunday to discuss the games.

The most important part of Jim's life was his family - his wife Nancy and his daughter Jay who were his support system, especially during the difficult days of his illness; his siblings; and his nieces and nephews. He kept close contact with his siblings, nieces and nephews and enjoyed the many phone conversations he had with all of them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to the Primary Children Hospital or the Huntsman Cancer Hospital.

His family is very thankful for the excellent care Jim received during his illness from the doctors, nurses and staff Huntsman Cancer Hospital.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date when family and friends may gather again with safety.
