He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil and Lucie; his wife Lorna; his son Alan; his brothers-in-law, Ernie Winfield, Richard Snow, Alfred Ridge and Doug Scribner; and his grandchildren, Cami Schlueter and Matthew James.

He is survived by: his children, Don James (Rita), Kayleen McClure, Kent James (Susie) and Sandy James; and his siblings, Tom James (Roberta), Lois Winfield, Joyce Ridge, Cheryl Snow and Cecile Scribner. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
