He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Ralph Barnes; his wife Nadine Bills Barnes; his mother Della Barnes; his son Jay Ralph Barnes; and his siblings, Keith Barnes, Grace Norwood and Lola Matthews.
He is survived by: his children, Jackie Ernst (Alma), Michael Barnes (Ann) and Jeffery Barnes (Gina). He is also survived by Eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren.
