He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lloyd Frehner Whitney and Winona Andersen; his wife Nancy; his children, Mike (Karen) of El Segundo, CA, Matt (Karren), John (Heather) and Chrisi Hammer (Matt); and his siblings, Mike (Mary Lou) and Mary Beth Leavitt Cedar (Terry) of City, UT.. He was also cherished by 16 grandchildren.

“First, my condolences to Nancy, her family and many friends. Second, I want to tell you how I met Jim. I was in a bank and I got a call from the LA SBA head who said “you need to hire Whitney” I did. He went on to develop the most successful SBA lending operation in CA. He was a good friend and great supervisor. I will miss him. RIP Jim.”
