He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Tharp and Neva Tharp (Miller); his siblings, Dick and Laverne; and his daughter-in-law Kerry Tharp (McCourt).

He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Jeanette (Smith); his sons, Leland, Keith (Celi), Jeff (Shannon) and Devin (Jill); and his siblings, Jay, LeRoy and LuAnn (Miller). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
