Jane was born on June 25th, 1946 and passed away on May 6th, 2024 at the age of 77.
Merl (Jane) Higgins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by family. Jane was born on June 25, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Aubry Baldwin Briggs and Hortense (Tennie) Lyman.
Jane graduated from Granite High School and was a graduate of Salt Lake Trade Technical College. She was a hard worker and had a long 25+ year career as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Ogden, Utah.
Jane had many talents; she was a wonderful singer, avid reader, crafter, collector, gardener, and one outstanding cook! Throughout her life, she was most well-known for her passion and love for animals of all kinds, but especially her beloved horses. She bred and raised Arabians and mini horses and was very proud to show them many times at the Utah State Fairgrounds. In addition to her devotion to raising and caring for animals, she was an active member of her community, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors and donate to causes near and dear to her heart.
Jane was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to her late husband, Hugh Paul Higgins, whom she married on April 8, 1977. She has three surviving children, Gina Gonzalez, Morgan, Dawn Kearl (Rod), Millcreek, Angie Newson (James), Magna, five siblings, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and eldest son Michael David Harris.
Jane will be deeply missed. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Jane's life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM. Located at, 4210 South 300 West, Riverdale, UT 84405. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Mustang Heritage Foundation, in honor of Jane's memory and deep love for these horses. Jane's passing leaves a void in our lives, but her passion and strong spirit will continue to guide us always. May she rest in eternal peace.
