Jay R Schooler Obituary

Jay R. Schooler was born December 7th, 1931, in Bridgeland, Duchesne County, Utah, to Frank William and Chloe Lewis Schooler. They were in Bridgeland as part of FDR's "New Deal" to teach the Native Americans the farming method of irrigation. They returned to Wasatch County in 1937, where he attended public schools. After High School, Jay worked for Turner Supply Co. until he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. His fine marksmanship earned him the assignment of a left gunner on the B-29 "Superfortress.". After the war ended, he was a Refuel Boom Operator on KC-135 aircraft. He married his high school sweetheart, Kay Parkhurst, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 3rd, 1953.

In the 1950's, Jay attended Weber State College and graduated with an Associate Degree as a Diesel Mechanic. He had the opportunity to continue his Air Force career in the Reserves at Hill Air Force Base. The love of flying lured him to join the Reserves full-time. He was a Flight Engineer on the C-119 "Flying Box Car" and C-124 "Old Shaky". He was a world traveler for 21 years, delivering cargo to Hawaii, Alaska, Bermuda, Okinawa, Japan, France, and all over the U.S.

In 1955, Jay and Kay purchased their first home in Sunset. They moved to Kaysville in 1963, then South Ogden in 1969. Always loving the "country feel," they moved to Farr West in 1977, where they stayed. He loved that Farr West was a small farming community and has enjoyed friendships with many wonderful neighbors.

After retiring in 1979 from the Air Force Reserves, Jay worked in a variety of part-time jobs and participated in various service opportunities. Jay and Kay served as missionary ushers on Salt Lake Temple Square, assisting at the Tabernacle, Assembly Hall, and Conference Center. They also served a local mission teaching English. Jay enjoyed serving in the Ogden Temple for three years.

They had six children who he loved very much. With his sons, Jay enjoyed attending Air Shows, as well as hunting, fishing, and firearms. He also attended many of his daughter's dance recitals and would take all of the children camping. Like his father, Jay had a sense of humor and would joke around a lot. These are a few of the memories that will be held by those he has left behind.

We are comforted that Jay is continuing his Eternal Journey!Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Frank (Stub) and Chloe Schooler; his three brothers, Frank Jr., Richard, and Jack; his sister Cleo Buehler; his daughter, Jannette Francis, and his son, Paul Schooler.

Jay is survived by his sister, Annette (Neil) Jones of American Fork; his wife, Kay of Farr West; his sons, Michael Jay (Karol) Schooler of Harrisville, and Linden P. Schooler (Sherry) of North Ogden; his daughters, Laurie Kay Panter (Brian Hardman) of South Ogden, and Sandra R. Sherwood, Farr West. Nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
