He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren B. Dowdle and Clara Ellis Dowdle; his siblings, Cora Brewer and Patrick Dowdle; and his great grandchild Andrew Griebel.

He is survived by: his children, Emily Boren (Bart), Judith Sweat (Trent), Ryan Dowdle (Katherine), Jamie Frary and Nathan Dowdle (Erin); and his siblings, Shree Nance (Alan), Erlene Tanner, Ben Dowdle, Greg Dowdle (Virginia), Brad and Fred Dowdle (Jenny). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
