He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Frank and Laura Higley Clayton; and his sister Karen. He is survived by: his sister Sharon Smith; and his children, Cynthia Clayton Cheney (Adam Cheney), Jeffery Frank Clayton (Ashlee Clayton), Adam Frank Clayton (Shanelle Clayton) and Jannette Clayton Anderson (Zach Anderson). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.
